Website advice?
I am looking to create a website that allows for multiple pages and looks nice and professional. I don’t mind using preset templates a la Blogger or Tumblr and I do want something free (for now), but from what I can tell, neither of these options allow me to create additional pages to the site (such as an FAQ page, for example).
Does anyone know how to do this? Is it even possible? Is...
Here comes the sun
On my train ride this morning, the weather started out rainy, muggy and gray in New Haven, but the closer we got to New York, the sunnier and lighter it became, clouds and fog lifting from the sky.
It seemed as though my mind paralleled the weather.
I’ve been thinking lately about my job, my career, my plans for after I finish my Master’s degree in May. I’ve gone back and...
Blahhh.
I can’t seem to wake up this morning and snap out of this distracted, tired, bored, blah FUNK. I went to bed at a decent time last night, ate a healthy little oatmeal breakfast and am now staring at my computer, absentmindedly clicking between applications and completely unable to focus. I blame it on this miserable, hot, gray, muggy weather.
I don’t drink coffee (or tea! or any hot...
So much to look forward to!
August 2 - 5k Walnut Beach Ice Cream run! 3.1 miles followed by an ice cream cone on the beach - what could be better!
August 8 - Weekend on Block Island - just Mark and me!
August 15 - Weekend in the Thousand Islands with good friends and Ralphie in tow!
September 7 - 5k Labor Day race in New Haven!
September 13 - Rochester Half-Marathon, a weekend with family and my quarterly hair...
I CANNOT STAND when people say...
“Do you wanna come with?” or “Who’s going with?”
Shouldn’t it be “Do you wanna come with ME?” Ending the sentence in “with” just seems so WRONG and it’s like nails on a chalkboard to me.
Isn’t that sentence grammatically incorrect?
This weekend
was fabulous!
Mark and I had a fantastic dinner at craftbar on Friday evening. We were staying at the W in Union Square and wanted to eat someplace local because we had to get up early the next morning for the City Chase competition. We scored a great table in the corner, enjoyed a couple specialty (and really, really strong) martinis and savored every bite of our delicious, perfectly...
Another reason I love him...
I just sent Mark an email filled with exclamation points and links to new furniture and decorative items and general hyper-ness at the prospect of a new decorating project.
And instead of asking me where this burst of decorating energy came from, he AGREED! And made some more suggestions on how to pull together the look of the rooms we want to decorate! And declared an IKEA trip and DIY project...
Calling all New Yorkers!
I never ended up taking my guest to Bianca a month ago when heylaney originally recommended it to me. I remember being stuck very late at work that evening and the thought of taking an 11pm train back to CT, knowing I’d have to get up a mere four hours later and get on the train again, forced me to cancel my dinner plans and get home at a reasonable hour.
However, Mark and I are going to be...
While I was in Kabul, our offices moved floors within our building. My new office is identical to my old office, except the desk is situated against the opposite wall. So the drawers that were to my left in my old office are now to my right and now I need to look over my right shoulder instead of my left to see when people pass my office.
I am SO thrown off by this change and everything being...
Dear New York,
Thank you for holding off on the rain on my first commute into the city in nearly a month. I really appreciate it and vow not to declare any hatred towards you for a while.
Most sincerely,
A grateful CT commuter

I was invited to one my Afghan colleague’s homes for dinner tonight. Among the guests will be my boss plus my colleague’s entire extended family. I just found out moments ago that women are not allowed to eat with men. Therefore, this evening, I will be enjoying a meal in a room full of women I don’t know speaking a language I don’t know. Oh wait, my knowledge of Dari DOES...
I heart Afghanistan
I am watching Indian paid programming on television while listening to the local mosque leader sing the evening call to prayer over the loudspeakers in the neighborhood.
My body and Afghanistan are officially at war
I have a stomach lined with lead. I RARELY get sick and I think I mentioned either here or on my travel blog that I have only vomited about five times in my entire life and two of them were alcohol-related. Well, add another one to that list.
Something at lunch must not have settled properly and all of a sudden, it came over me and I rushed to the bathroom and the rest is history.
I have been...
Things I am looking forward to upon my return to...

I love Afghanistan, but for some reason this trip... →
Yesterday I was really, really sick from something I’d eaten the night before.
Your worst hangover + the worst case of the flu = Me.
At the instruction of some of my Afghan friends, I took some mystery medicine hoping that would relieve the intense queasiness. Only after I’d popped two pills did I realize that I have drug allergies and that popping some unknown pills in this...

What I Ate Today
One packet of instant oatmeal
Three bites of Afghan flat bread
One Kit-Kat bar
I think I have a parasite again.
[Edited to add: It is 8pm here. That is all I have eaten ALL DAY.]
