SIGH.
Lady Luck wasn’t really on my side at the blackjack table in Vegas and she is definitely not escorting me home either. My flight from Vegas to LAX was delayed for an hour due to weather, then when we finally landed we sat on the tarmac for two hours because the airport imbeciles couldn’t find us a gate to park in. I sprinted off the plane after being promised my connecting flight to...

eerriinnbbaaeerr asked: I USED ONE OF THOSE HANGERS! It is so cute, everyone who saw it or sees the pictures of it loves it, and now I have it hanging in my bathroom near my vanity. I posted a bunch of wedding pictures in April, but I didn't include one of that. Shoot. But trust me. It's cute!!
(I think mine was only like $18 or something. Maybe they are getting popular so the price went up...?)

I have not eaten, slept or showered in over a day.
After 30+ consecutive hours of travel from Malawi to Connecticut and innumerable delays and frustrations, I have concluded that transportation in the “developed” world is just as annoying and crappy as the developing world. The only difference is that here we have air-conditioning.

graceinsmallthings asked: Where are you and Mark honeymooning? Is that your October adventure in Nepal?

nomadsoul asked: Love the rollin' like a big shot post- had me giggling. BUT do you really travel with your bling on? After mis-placing mine TWICE while in Africa/Asia and at times fearing my safety with a big diamond sitting on my finger, I started leaving it behind and wearing a simple band while traveling. Just wondering.

graceinsmallthings asked: With as much traveling as you do in developing nations, do you have to stay on malaria meds full time? Also, how much notice do you normally have before trips? Lately, I've had editors ask me to go on assignments with a week's notice, sometimes less, and I plan my schedule too far out to be able to drop everything just like that. But it seems that your company doesn't tell you too...

I think I will have covered every mode of...
I’m traveling tomorrow by taxi (thank god no more public buses!) to Lilongwe where I will await my Tuesday flight to South Africa. After milling about in the airport for half a day, I will board an 18 hour flight to JFK. Once I arrive in NY on Wednesday morning, local time, I will ride in a van to my home in Connecticut, 70+ miles from the airport. I get to enjoy my dear fiancĂ© and...

It was a rough first night in Africa.
Despite being almost immediately smitten with the country (it might parallel my love for Afghanistan - I’ll let you know in two weeks), my first night was challenging. I was thrilled that my Blackberry worked when I touched down but so, so disappointed when it stopped working in the town where I’m staying. My hotel room at the nicest joint in town is a bit too akin for my liking to a...

En route to Malawi via South Africa shortly!
My bag is stocked with books and my iPod is stocked with new tunes and my boarding pass shows a window seat at the front of the plane so I’m good to go! Praying that the 16 hour flight flies by. Catch ya in southern Africa on the flipside!

Satisfaction.
This morning, Mark and I did a sweep of the whole house and cleaned out:
6 bags of hardly-worn clothes (4 to Goodwill and 2 to consignment for cash!)
1 huge box of old/broken electronics to Gazelle (for recycling and cash!)
1 giant bin of broken/unused/unwanted crap to the dumpster
It felt great getting rid of stuff that was secretly cluttering up our closets.
I also packed for Malawi AND Las...

Wedding To-Do List (before I leave for Malawi in...
Find ceremony musicians (do we get a trio? a quartet?)
Decide on the dinner menu (we decided to change from stations to a seated dinner and now we have to re-choose our entire menu)
Weigh invitations and buy postage
Cut 120 envelope liners (yes, they’re totally unnecessary but SO PRETTY!)
(Maybe I could bring my trusty paper cutter and a big stack of vintage maps to Malawi and cut...
