I decided on the blue nail polish (and received compliments from strangers on it ALL WEEK!) and it was a good thing because…
I SMASHED MY PREVIOUS HALF-MARATHON PR BY 8 (EIGHT!) MINUTES!
It was a gorgeous albeit chilly morning for a race in downtown Norfolk and the first half of the race was a piece of cake. I was banging out eight minute miles like a champ.
Then my legs started complaining. Only the right side of the road was blocked off on the course so because the roads are pitched to allow for drainage, my left leg was always higher than my right leg and I started feeling the affects of this around mile 9. I had a dull pain shooting from my left calf to my hip and another one in my right ankle and calf. I slowed down a bit for the last four miles and ended with an average speed of 8:40/mile and total time of 1:53.
I LOVE races, especially distance races like half-marathons. While I’d love to be able to say I’ve run a full marathon, I’m not sure that I even want to. 13.1 miles is long enough to feel both a runner’s pain and elation at crossing the finish line and for now, that is good enough for me.
Next goal: 1:45 (and find a way to control that crazy hair as pictured above).

About

Avatar I live in Virginia but I don’t stay put for very long. I’m a nonprofit worker extraordinaire, and I love to climb mountains and travel to places no one else wants to go.

I love to cook and bake and drink prosecco, and run and practice yoga. I love beautiful home interior design and a good bargain.

I have a quirky little beagle/bassett/dalmatian named Ralphie and a fantastic, adventurous husband named Mark.
